Sirius had tried to befriend Remus Lupin approximately three minutes after their first class had let out, cornering him between the rose bushes and the shallow steps outside of Austin Hall, only for Remus to look down at his outstretched hand, his gaze lingering over his Black family ring, his pressed corduroys, his cashmere sweater, and then flicking back up to his smiling face to smile back at him, thin and mean and so ridiculously handsome that Sirius still thinks about it twelve years later to say, “I’m not interested, Black.”
